Fairlie Moor

Slope Wind Directions: NW & W
Sat Nav postcode: KA29 0EQ (This is for a farm about halfway up the hill)

Slope Forecast:
Visit the Windfinder site for a very accurate 3day hour by hour weather forecast for Fairlie Moor.

Slope Description:
The Fairlie Moor slope is probably the biggest in the West or Scotland. Huge lift in just about any westerly wind. Fly out from the slope to get super smooth lift straight off the Firth of Clyde.
In a westerly it is best to fly off the lower plateau. From the first cattle grid head North along the slope keeping the trees on your left. The path will fork and the right one will head up Black Hill. Head up this and along another 250m or so to the small plateau. It should be noticeable as there is less heather in the area and more grass. The best landing area is to the to the left when facing into the Clyde. Don't go too far back or come in too high as the rotor can be really bad. The area behind the plateau is also bad for rotor.

Slope Information:
The area is used for grazing sheep. Please use caution if the sheep are in the field and keep dogs on a lead if they are. The sheep are usually not interested and will head away when you arrive. Watch out for the para gliders as they sometimes use this location.

To access the slope;
It is best to come up the hill from the A78. I tried the Fairlie Moor road coming from Glasgow and it was crap! It is not signposted, your sat nav might decide you are driving in a field, the road is in poor condition and there are few passing places.

For the W slope, park at the first cattle grid when you come up the hill(red star). Then head up the Hill to the north. It is about 750m to the small plateau(purple arrow). For the big westerly slope(green arrow) you can climb the bigger part of the hill but I am not sure it is worth the trouble? If you want to do it then park further up towards the second second cattle grid(black star) and walk up from there.

The NW slope on Glentane Hill(blue arrow), overlooks the Glenburn Trout Fishery and is on the right as you come up the hill from the A78. I think it might be best to park at the 2nd cattle grid or possibly at the Trout Fishery. I have yet to go up there so can anyone who has been please advise? Head up the hill and pick a suitable launch and landing spot.
