Neilston Pad

Slope Wind Directions: NW - WSW
Sat Nav postcode: G78 3DA (This is for the fishery about a mile down the road!)

Slope Forecast:
Visit the Windfinder site for a very accurate 3day hour by hour weather forecast for Neilston.

Slope Description:
Neilston Pad is a small steep slope which requires a walk in. Despite the trees now growing near the base of the sloe there is still good lift from this slope from the right wind direction. Having flowing it recently in a SW there is still lift but there are strange patches of sink. We suspect this is due to the wind turbine down at the road causing turbulence. There should be no issue in a NW-W as the wind turbine is off the slope line at this point.

Fly from the top of the cliff like slope. Large landing zone at the back of the slope. Just have a look for boggy bits so you know to avoid them when landing.

Slope Information:
The field you fly and land from is used for grazing. Please use caution if the sheep are in the field and keep dogs on a lead if they are. The sheep are usually not interested and will head away when you arrive.

To access the slope;
Option 1, from the red star(short but steep, 15min)
Park in the lay by opposite the wind turbine on Kingston Rd. The turbine will be on the right if approaching from Neilston. Follow the path on the left towards the trees from the lay by. A turn right when at the T junction should lead to the edge of Craighall Dam. follow along the path, when the path turns right head left towards the base of the slope. There will be a small gate go through this and then head up the slope with the fence line on your right.

Option 2, from the black star (longer but less steep, 25min)
Turn off Kingston Road at the sign for Harelaw Trout Fishery. Follow up this road, veer left into the forestry car park. Park in the forestry car park. Head out on the main path to the North. Stay on the main path that looks like it's used by the farmers tractors. (it's shown on the map below) It will head off left up the hill, follow it and it will lead to the treeline at the backside of the slope. Follow the treeline up the slope. When it levels off and you have passed the fence on the left walk towards the slope edge.

Looking WSW and the wind turbine which looks like might be the cause of turbulence on the slope. The last of the snow storm, looking S.
